Getting your husband to eat healthy, or how to lose a guy in 10 days

My husband. I love the man, and he’s probably the only guy who would ever have put up with me for the last 20 years, but getting him on the healthy eating wagon has been a challenge!
I try to be sneaky…swapping lean ground turkey for ground beef in chili, tacos, sloppy joes, etc. He’s caught on.

Example:

Last week I heard the familiar, “What’s for dinner?”
I reply, “Salmon? Quinoa?”
Hubs: “Can’t you just make something NORMAL?”
Ugh. Normal? What’s abnormal about salmon? After some deliberation, we decided on Shepard’s pie.
Little did he know it wasn’t going to be “normal” 
I had ground turkey in the freezer along with some corn and green beans. I browned and drained the turkey while boiling some red potatoes and garlic. Threw the meat in a baking dish, topped it with green beans, corn, and garlic mashed potatoes and baked it at 350° for 30 minutes.

Added a side salad with some homemade dressing, and viola, dinner was served!

Dressing: 2 TBS extra virgin olive oil
                 2 TBS raw honey
                 3 TBS balsamic vinegar
So good.

He ate the Shepard’s pie without with minimal complaint, “This isn’t bad, but you used turkey didn’t you?” and “It actually tastes pretty good”, but steered clear of the dressing! Score one for me 🙂

Now don’t get me wrong, he is trying. He hasn’t had a single greasy chip, cookie, or donut since the New Year! He takes salads and cereal in his lunch pail, and he even got on the treadmill this morning!

He does love these!

No bake energy bites:
       1 cup old fashioned oats
       1/2 cup peanut butter
       1/3 cup raw honey (melted)
       1/2 cup dried cranberries
       1/2 cup chocolate chips
       1 tsp vanilla
       2 TBS each chia seed and flax seed
Mix all ingredients together in a bowl, refrigerate for 30-60 minutes, form into 1 inch balls and devour!

And he’s loving my new obsession with poached egg, turkey sausage, English muffin sandwiches (Insert mental picture here because they are wayyy too good to get a picture of before shoving into my mouth). I guess I can’t complain!

I’m super proud of the fact he’s trying! After all, he’s the guy who can usually stop looking at a donut for a week and drop 20 pounds. Ugh. Men.

I also cut him off of microwave popcorn, but I do let him enjoy air popped…even with a tablespoon of melted butter. I’m nice like that. It’s the little things!

I think I’ll give him some time before I sneak the nutritional yeast onto his bowl 😉

Speaking of popcorn… time to whip up a batch and watch me some Sister Wives. Don’t judge.
